[Play to YOUR Audience New post from Tom Miller – President and founder of Symbolist. You can read more about him and where he’ll be this year on our Leadership page.]
I love the video clip embedded below. (Email and RSS subscribers may need to click through here to see it.)
I saw it on Yahoo, so I imagine there are tons of people that may have already seen it, but I wanted to share it with Symbolist people in case it didn’t cross your path. Pay attention to the blonde girl in the center of the video.
Innocence, love, joy, passion… she is expressing all those emotions as she performs in her school Holiday Musical. You may notice her hand signals don’t match the other students. That isn’t because she doesn’t know the right routine. It’s because her parents, the people recording the clip, are both deaf. Her performance allowed them both to enjoy the concert in a way that, I imagine, made her very proud.
While it would have been easy to simply follow the lead of the teacher and the other students and mimic the hand gestures she was surely taught in rehearsal, she knew who her real audience was and made sure she connected with them. The question for you is this – Do you connect with your real audience authentically and emotionally – or do you do what those around you are doing?
But enough business talk… my real reason for putting this out here on the blog is that it’s the Holiday Season and it is my wish that all of us have the opportunity to experience the same Innocence, Love, Joy, and Passion – just like this little girl.
Look for it, create it, share it, live it.
